Cysts

One common procedure performed is the removal of cysts. Cysts are benign, fluid-filled sacs or lumps that can develop under the skin. While some cysts may not require removal, others may be bothersome, painful, or cosmetically undesirable.

Excision

An excision of the skin is a surgical procedure to remove a specific area of skin, often for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes. This procedure is commonly used to remove suspicious or problematic skin growths, such as moles, cysts, tumors, or skin cancers. An excision allows for a more precise and controlled removal of affected tissue than other methods like shaving or biopsy. At St. Clair Dermatology, we perform excisions under local anesthesia.

Biopsy

A skin biopsy is a medical procedure in which a small sample of skin tissue is removed for examination and analysis under a microscope. It is a common diagnostic tool used by dermatologists and other healthcare professionals to help diagnose various skin conditions, identify potential skin cancers, and determine the most appropriate treatment plan. Skin biopsies are safe and minimally invasive procedures.

Cryosurgery

Also known as cryotherapy, cryosurgery is a dermatological procedure that involves using extreme cold temperatures to freeze and destroy abnormal or unwanted skin tissues, such as warts, skin tags, actinic keratoses (pre-cancerous lesions), and certain skin cancers. The cold temperature causes ice crystals to form within the targeted cells, leading to cellular destruction and subsequent sloughing off of the treated tissue.
